Durham Chiropractor Dr. David Martin: “I have the world’s greatest job!”
Every day I have the honor of helping people get out of pain, overcome health challenges, and feel hope for the first time in years. I help people get their lives back, and I can’t imagine anything more rewarding than that!
I’m a problem-solver by nature.
When I sit down to talk with my patients, I’m looking for the problem. When I analyze X-rays, I’m looking for the problem. I’m not talking about headaches or neck pain. Those are just symptoms, and you don’t need me to make the symptoms go away. (That’s what ibuprofen is for!) What I’m looking for is the deeper problem. I’m looking for the structural problem in your spine that is causing your symptoms.
Here’s why my job is so rewarding:
I know when I fix your structural problems, not only do your symptoms go away (which is great in and of itself!) but you are set up for a healthier life overall.
How I became a chiropractor…
I injured my neck one day in high school wrestling practice. I didn’t think it was that bad, but then I started having headaches and neck pain almost every day. I kind of figured it was normal, but it went on for quite a while. My parents took me to see a chiropractor and I started getting adjusted. I couldn’t believe the difference in how I felt! I was so impressed I decided at 17 years old that I wanted to become a chiropractor myself.
Education & Experience
1992-1996: I did my undergrad in Chicago. Great city! Visit if you ever get the chance.
1997-2000: I trained at the world’s best-known chiropractic school―Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Great school, not such a great city. Save yourself the trip. 😉
2000: Right after graduation from Palmer, I opened a family wellness chiropractic office in upstate New York where I grew up. I loved that practice. It’s still going strong and gets voted “Best Chiropractor” year after year in that city.
2011-2012: My wife and I moved to Arequipa, Peru, and I managed a chiropractic clinic there for one year.
2012: We came back from Peru, I sold my practice in upstate New York to the doctor who managed it for me while I was away, and my wife and I moved to Philadelphia, where I opened my second chiropractic office.
2014: We sold the practice in Philadelphia and moved to Durham to live closer to family.
2015: I opened Precision Chiropractic in Durham in January 2015. I’m excited to be practicing as a chiropractor in the Triangle. I like the way this area supports local small businesses. People tend to be progressive in their thinking here, and I’ve found they are eager to learn the benefits of structural chiropractic care.
While living in Peru, my wife, Karen, and I volunteered at an orphanage near the chiropractic clinic where I worked. To make a long story short, after returning to the States, we decided to adopt four of the kids from the orphanage. As of August 2014, we are a family of six: my wife, Karen, and I, and our four kids from Peru: Stephanie, Ivone, Alfredo and Joseph.
Enough about me. What about you?
