HEADACHES

Let’s start with the good news: Headaches are not “normal.” And in most cases, headaches can be fixed.

We hear this all the time: “Oh yes, I get headaches, but they’re just normal.”

Listen closely: There’s no such thing as a normal headache.

Can Chiropractic Help Headaches?

A frequent and overlooked cause of headaches is when the bones in the neck or upper back get misaligned. When vertebrae lose their normal position or range of motion, it affects nerves and blood vessels to the head. When spinal nerves and related tissues are stretched or irritated, they can produce throbbing headaches.

Medications can cover up the warning signs, but they do nothing to correct the underlying structural cause. That’s exactly what specific chiropractic adjustments do: correct the underlying structural cause of the headache.

Types of Headaches Chiropractic Can Help With

  • Tension headaches
  • Cluster headaches
  • Sinus headaches
  • Migraine headaches
  • Neurogenic headaches
  • Stress related headaches

Dr. Martin has a special interest in helping people get rid of headaches because that’s what got him on the path to becoming a chiropractor in the first place. In high school he had a wrestling injury that resulted in extreme neck pain and severe headaches. He tried a number of different things, but nothing and no one could help him until he finally went to see a chiropractor. There, once the originating problem was corrected in his neck, he finally experienced relief. The experience was powerful enough that he decided to go to Palmer College of Chiropractic and become a chiropractor himself.

Dr. Michael Petchauer (on the left) is the chiropractor who fixed Dr. Martin’s neck back in high school. He has been a professional mentor and dear friend to Dr. Martin in the decades since then.

What Are The Best Exercises For Lower Back Pain?

What Are The Best Exercises For Lower Back Pain?

PLANKS. Planks engage the abdominal muscles and back muscles, stabilizing the spinal column and mimicking proper lumbar alignment. To do them right and protect your back: Start on your forearms to avoid shoulder strain. Keep your abs tight the entire time. Do not let your back sag. Square your hips with the floor. Have someone take a picture or set up a timed photo/video so you can check whether your back is straight. This is a better way to confirm your posture than using a mirror, because the mirror requires you to twist your neck in the middle of the pose.
