How does chiropractic help with fevers?

Welcome back to our Natural Healthcare series! Today, we dive into fevers: why they happen, what you can do naturally for them, and why chiropractic helps.

Why do fevers happen?

A fever is an important part of the body’s defense against infection – it is not an illness in and of itself. In actuality, a fever is a sign of an activated immune system; it is a sign of the body fighting the infection. So, a fever is not a disease, but usually, a natural and positive symptom of a body responding in a healthy way to an invader.

When a fever occurs, antibodies and white blood cells typically elevate to fight off the virus or bacteria, destroying the virus or bacteria, then removing the dead tissue. This increased activity is what raises the body temperature. Consequently, we do not recommend medications for lowering the fever. Medications not only stop the body from performing its natural defense, but may also cause other side effects or mask your symptoms. Some medications even prolong the illness!

Note: Fevers in young babies require immediate medical attention and intervention.

What can you do naturally for fevers?

Fevers can be best treated naturally with constant hydration and light clothing. If you or the child feel cold, grab a blanket, warm drink, and let the shivers come! As the body cycles into feeling too hot, pull off the extra layers, get a cool cloth and cold drink, and then be ready to repeat as often as necessary.

Why does chiropractic help with fevers?

While chiropractors do not directly treat fevers, chiropractic adjustments help maintain immunity by correcting subluxations that cause misalignments and miscommunications between the brain, spinal cord, and nervous system. A body’s innate health and intelligence need clear pathways! Chiropractic adjustments help clear the interferences, optimizing communication between the brain and cells to facilitate the natural healing process

Adjustments also calm the sympathetic nervous system and activate the parasympathetic, which is the healing and recovery part of the nervous system. They can help open eustachian tubes, help lymphatic drainage, and help drain the sinuses.

We highly recommend consistent adjustments to help not only pain, but also to boost your immune system, even when you’re sick or have fevers!
